The United States is the top study-abroad destination for international students across the world. Over 2,000 US colleges and universities offer four-year programs in which students earn a bachelor’s degree.
The curriculum of many undergraduate programs is based on a “liberal arts” philosophy in which students are required to study courses from a range of subjects to form a broad educational foundation. These general education courses include study in English composition, social sciences, humanities, history, mathematics and natural or physical sciences.
Once they have met the core curriculum requirements, students at most institutions are asked to choose a specific field of study, also known as the major. The final two years are spent taking more courses that are more directly related to your major.
Unlike a number of other countries, like India, degrees in law and medicine are not offered at the undergraduate level in the US. These professional study programs are undertaken after a bachelor’s degree. While law nor medical schools do not require or prefer a specific undergraduate major, the medical schools do have set prerequisite courses that must be taken before enrollment. Undergraduate students who are preparing to attend medical school following their undergraduate careers are known as pre-med.

Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture. Today, the humanities are more frequently contrasted with natural, and sometimes social sciences, as well as professional training.

Both Natural and Social sciences are empirical sciences as their knowledge are based on empirical observations and are capable of being tested for its validity by other researchers working under the same conditions.

Social Sciences flourished primarily in Europe in the 18th century. It is the branch that examines the people, society and their interactions with one another. In simple words, Social Sciences is the key to capture every aspect of social being, be it observing the finer points of human behavior or extensive matters such as economic growth, politics or social movements etc. Social Scientists observe the way people behave and influence society. Their observations play a significant role in determining government policies. Some of the major areas of Social Sciences are Anthropology, Business Informatics, Economics, Gender Studies, Geography, History, Law, Politics, Psychology and Sociology etc.

Engineering is an applied science which uses scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items, including bridges, tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings.
Engineering is a broad discipline that is often broken down into several sub-disciplines. Although an engineer will usually be trained in a specific discipline, he or she may become multi-disciplined through experience.

Business Studies is another popular course to study in the USA as the Americans business colleges provide students with well-crafted business programs. Business Studies covers multiple fields such as accountancy, marketing, economics, finance and human resources etc.
The field of Business Studies allows students to learn the skills required in the business sector and understand the concept of business models.
